Toddlers are fun, two little boys playing in a paddling pool is great fun, but as I had no choice over the setting and we were in bright sunshine with a bright pink paddling pool, the shoot cause for some creative thinking – a reflector put the pool in the shade, adding some fill flash brighten up the shadows and turning the images into black and white created a timeless feel.
Mum playing with water too – I was shooting with my 28-300mm lens, sat on the floor, hence mum is looking really tall, the shot elongates her legs in particular, as I was at the camera’s widest angle at this point, you can see how bight the sunlight was – so it was essential to meter for the subject.
I love the details – the concentration on the little one’s face as he investigates the moving water from the watering can – the hand you instantly know as mum’s by her jewellery, but the focus is on the interaction between them – moments captured!
Fun, pure fun as he plays – little ones grow up so quickly and their faces are so expressive – it is essential to catch “the moment”
Another moment – are they sharing or fighting, who knows… but it is a memory to treasure of two cousins having fun!
