Bluebell Woods

On previous years I have captured photos of Bluebells, and today I was checking out the location for a possible portrait shoot, with only my nifty 50 to hand – and the frustration that this brought really highlighted the importance of anticipating the shot and taking the right equipment or traveling with a full camera bag.

I love the woodland – but with the nifty 50, I could not zoom in and compress the background, bring the flowers closer together – the dull light of an overcast day though meant great lighting conditions and only very soft shadows.

I focused instead this time of thinking where I would sit subjects within the woodland, how to make the images light and airy… I like a softer style and when I compare the subject with images taken in previous years I can see my composition has improved too!

Year Two (66) – Silhouettes

Underexposing in the camera can make some great silhouette style images which can tell their own story, the ideal time is at dusk so you can capture the vibrant colours of the sunset.

Year Two (17) – Getting creative

I wanted to create a poster for the Old Bakery Studio group which showcased photography and perhaps inspired people to come along to the group… I wanted to use photographs to do it, and had the idea to include a variety of images from the members of the group and the subjects that we covered to showcase the diversity of the program.

I wanted to capture a modern frame to showcase the images, so I photographed this empty block frame in a variety of positions.

Day 360 – Planning your holiday

Happy Boxing Day.

One of the traditions of Christmas seems to be a look ahead at the New Year and with that in mind people often begin to look ahead and where they are going to holiday in the nest year.

In the last couple of weeks I have been working closely with some local self catering accommodation and I was commissioned to take some new photos of their facilities that could be used in their advertising and promotions for the New Year.

If you are interested in more details about this accessible holiday accommodation in the New Forest – please visit their web site: www.ourbench.co.uk
