Year Two (123) – Adding Autumn

I am looking to invest in another prime lens I think at some point, so I headed out in the New Forest today with my Canon EF 100mm macro lens to see if I could get it to shoot portraits for me the way I wanted to, as my current lens combination sometimes sees me shooting wider than I originally intended. Year two (120) – Photobuddy

Long time no blog … but welcome back Photobuddy!

This was taken the same day as the Highland Cow picture … and it was a beautiful morning with the autumn light shining through the trees…  and I knew what I wanted … I wanted to capture that light with my photobuddy in the foreground!

He was the best photobuddy in the world! With my camera flash on the ground to the side, he sat just where I wanted him and I took the shot… straight out of camera I was impressed…

Taking it into lightroom and photoshop and adding a little more processing and I am still impressed .. I am in awe to think he sat style and that I can achieve this kind of shot in camera!

Year Two (107) – High Key animal portraits on location!

I have just got myself a great new hi-lite box which enables me to create a fantastic studio hi key background in a very minimal space, so I have a portable studio I can take pretty much anywhere, and create amazing hi key images. My challenge is to master putting it back in the bag … but I am sure I will.

Today I experimented with some animal shots… it is great taking animals in a natural setting, but it is also great to be able to take studio shots of them too… lucky for me, my favorite photo buddy has been trained to sit, so to make sure I am happy with the set up… I did some taster shots today, in some of the worse lighting… I am delighted with the results…

The challenge is to get an interesting facial expression on my photo buddies face… to start with he was not that interested. Continue reading

Year Two (48) – Purbeck Hills and Coast

I escaped for a few days away enjoying the Purbeck Hills and coastline – the challenge for any traveling photographer is what kit to take and what to use … I was really pleased with my selection and think I got it right for the locations I was visiting… so I thought I would share. Continue reading

Year Two (47) – Creative Buttercups…

One challenge of photography is to try and look at things differently – you can easily get in a creative rut by doing the same thing and taking photos at the same angle – so I headed out in the sunshine with my Nifty 50 lens, with the aim to choose a spot – sit down and spend a few moments photography and experimenting with aperture to create a range of different images of the same scene.

Emma as part of her #Yearwithyoucamera free photography course, encourages you sometimes to think differently about your images…. Continue reading

Year Two (41) – Photo Buddy is back!

Photobuddy is back and is the star of today’s photoshoot, I wanted a focal point in the bluebell wood and my border collie was a willing model… well put it this way, he was keen to come for a walk and was happy to have the camera pointed in his direction, whereas the rest of the family really want to these days.

Year Two (35) – Playing in the Woods

I have been shown one of two different abstract effects recently that I you can take in camera, so this weekend I headed off to visit the bluebells with a prop, and some ideas to try something different.

These are the results of my experiments.

This is the same wood that I visited recently … but there are lots more bluebells out and it is a lot harder to just choose that one perfect flower Continue reading

Year Two (01) – Lovely Light at the Beach

I missed blogging, I have not yet made it to the end of day 5 but I miss the purpose it brings to my photography… I like not having to take a photo, and not having to explain why I choose to share or experiment in that way… and out on the beach today I found myself thinking what great light… I want to share it …

So this is the first of my year two posts… I have signed up for Emma’s new challenge – #AYearWithMyCamera, which will no doubt be influencing some of my images… and I have started playing with some of the new equipment I got for Christmas … I have had a tidy up of the blog and I am just going to see how it goes.

I have a freshly calibrated and better monitor (discovered hubby’s was better quality than mine so swapped!) for editing… and I am all set for 2016.

Day 354 – Photo Buddy’s Model Mayhem

My photo buddy got to be in the lime light during the study session, with a variety of flash and strobe lights the idea was to capture the essence of 1 year old Sparky. Continue reading
